Russia and Turkey have agreed to renew the two contracts for the supply of gas from Russia, which expire in 2011 and 2012. This was declared the prime ministers of two countries, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan following their meeting in Sochi, RIA Novosti. In particular, the parties agreed to extend the framework agreement on gas deliveries to western direction, signed in 1986. The second agreement relates to the additional supply of six billion cubic meters a year.

According to Vladimir Putin, Turkey is the third largest consumer of Russian gas, after Italy and Germany. In 2008 the country exported 23.9 billion cubic meters of gas. In turn, Erdogan stressed that Russia has always come to the aid of Turkey, if one needed additional quantities of fuel.

Putin and Erdogan also agreed to begin negotiations on the possible construction of gas pipeline “Blue Stream-2”. Previously, it was reported that this project involves the construction of the third threads of a pipeline in parallel with “Blue Stream”, as well as gas transport infrastructure in Turkey and sea pipeline in the direction of Israel.
