Yushchenko called on to destroy all the monuments of the Soviet Union

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko called on to destroy all the monuments of the communist regime in the country. Yushchenko made this statement at a rally in memory of the victims of political repression on 17 May, the agency Interfax.

According to Yushchenko, the history of the communist system like the millions of innocent victims among the Ukrainians, and therefore can not remain in the memory of the Ukrainian people.

The head of Ukraine recalled that during the years 2007-2008 in Ukraine were dismantled more than 400 monuments of the Soviet period.

The rally was held in the historical and memorial park “Bykovnyanskie grave in a forest near Kiev. They buried some 100-150 thousand Ukrainians and Poles, according to various sources, shot by German troops during World War II or were victims of Stalin’s repressions in 1930-ies.

At the meeting the President of Ukraine declared “condemned” people who deny and justify Stalin’s Holodomor – the famine of 1933, considered in Ukraine as genocide against the population of the Ukrainian SSR.
